He was predeceased by: his parents, Joel Thomas Kirkland and Mary Frances Kirkland (Figgins); and his wife Sandra Kirkland (Shipe). He is survived by: his children, Sherry Lee Kirkland (Rick Souder) of Front Royal, VA and Richard Earl "Rick" Kirkland, Jr. (Bonnie Kirkland) of Friedens, PA; his sister Kitty Sue Jarrell of Edenton, NC; his grandchildren, Michael Sean Gilkey, Brittany Kirkland Compher (Kyle) and Richard Earl "Trey" Kirkland III (Lauren); and his great grandchildren, Kendall, Kason, Eli, MyKayla, Waylon and Reagan.
