He was predeceased by: his parents, Virgil Leon and Ola Celia Funk Rutherford; his wife Ella "Ellen" Sue Carico Rutherford; and his brothers, Leon Rutherford, Paige Rutherford, Elmo Rutherford and Harry Rutherford.
He is survived by: his daughter Debra; his son-in-law David Noblett of Fries, Virginia; his sons, Greg (Debra Rutherford) of Fries, Virginia and Kevin (Sherry Rutherford) of Fries, Virginia; his sister Ruth Sutherland of Fries, Virginia; his sisters-in-law, Opal Rutherford of Galax, Virginia and Amelia Rutherford of Santa Paula, California; and his close friend Julianna Digiacomo. He is also survived by six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephew.
