He was predeceased by: his parents, Lyde Spence and Nell Carr Pruett; his wife Thelma Wood Pruett; and his son Michael Spence Pruett. He is survived by: his son Richard Pruett; his grandchildren, Elizabeth G. Weadon (Howie) and Bradford S. Pruett (Traci); his great grandchildren, James Michael Weadon, Georgia Rae Pruett and Austin Bruemmer; his daughter-in-law Elizabeth H. Pruett; and his close friend Shirley Bowie.
