John Westley Meadows, Sr. Obituary
John Westley Meadows, Sr., 79, of Fredericksburg and Madison County, VA passed away on Saturday, November 23rd, 2019 at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, VA.
John was born in Charlottesville, VA on August 12th, 1940 to the late Jackson "Jack" Dorsey and Gladys Ethel Shifflett Meadows. He was one of twelve children.
He was a Veteran who served his country for two years as a Private in the United States Army in the early 1960s.
Early on he worked as a Warehouse Foreman at Turbo Products. He wound up starting his own business, which he operated for over twenty-five years, John W. Meadows Welding Services. He then joined Frackelton Block Company in 1986 as the plant manager where he served faithfully until his retirement.
He enjoyed watching a good football game, having a great meal and anything sweet, especially ice cream. He loved the mountains, the land, and his numerous collections of old things.
He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as five brothers and two sisters - Junius "June" Meadows, Orean "Owen" Meadows, Larry "Mac" Meadows, Margie Aylor, Walter Meadows, Jack Meadows, and Mary Perry.
Survivors include: three daughters and one son - Tammie Powell and husband Edward of Salem, Kimberly Dodson and husband Thomas of Weyers Cave, Robyn Taylor and husband Christopher of Stanardsville, John "JW" Meadows, Jr. and wife Tanya of Madison; ten grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; two great-grandchildren; three sisters and one brother - Veda Aylor, Lula Gildemann, Sidney Meadows, and Jane Aylor; numerous nieces and nephews; and his longtime companion and dearest friend, Mary Carter Frackelton.
The family will receive friends from 4:00pm to 6:00pm on Saturday, November 30th, 2019 at Covenant Funeral Service in Fredericksburg, VA. There will be no interment as the body will be cremated on December 4th, 2019.
