He was predeceased by: his parents, John T. Hopkins, Sr. and Philomena Marano Hopkins; his wife Gail; his siblings, James F. Hopkins and Elizabeth; and his son Mitchell R. Jones (Toni).
He is survived by: his daughter Toni Hopkins Jones; his grandsons, Ryan R. Jones (Abigail), Michael T. Jones (Amanda) and Christopher C. Jones; his great grandchild Savannah L. Jones of Spotsylvania; and his friends, Pierre, Ashlee and Ann.
With his involvement in the Celebrate Freedom Foundation John hosted the 60th reunion of the Doolittle Raiders, the Black Sheep Squadron VMF 214 reunion, the Tuskegee Airmen reunion, and the Navajo Code Talkers.
