It is with great sadness that we announce the death of James W. Canty Jr. (Fredericksburg, Virginia), born in Kingwood, West Virginia, who passed away on January 3, 2023, at the age of 79, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, James W. Canty and Wilma Canty (Moomaw); his wife Linda Overby Canty; his sons, James W. Canty III (Amy) and Thomas Hart Canty (Brooke); his grandchildren, Jamie, Nathaniel, Mason and Alyse; and his daughter Dianne Elizabeth Canty.

“Linda and family, There are not words to convey how I hurt for you all. I first met Jim in the 1970's and he was my 'big' brother and I was his little sis. We had so many happy, fun times 'back in the good old days' when life was slower & less complicated. Jim's presence at any event was always evident. He and his personality always commanded attention, laughter, memories and good times. When he'd start playing his trumpet, WOW! Now he's leading a band of angels & still making music!”
