He was predeceased by: his parents, Arthur G. Thompson and Eva J. Mason Thompson; his wife Melvadine Wilkinson Thompson; his siblings, Kermit, Garland Thompson, Gwen Coleman, Anita Colucci and Eva Sienkiewicz; and his son Steven M. Thompson.

He is survived by: his children, Mark (Ayisha Thompson) of Merrill, WI and Glenna Tate of Fredericksburg; his grandson Brent Tate of Twentynine Palms, CA; his brother James Ray; and his sister-in-law Margot Thompson of Oklahoma City, OK. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
