He was predeceased by: his mother Dolores Tillett Whitley; and his brothers, Doug and Trent Whitley. He is survived by: his father Jim "Bunk" Whitley (Gerry); and his brother Scott Whitley (Heather) of Burlington, NC.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the American Diabetes Association or any favorite charity.
