He was predeceased by: his father Charles Kenton Matheny. He is survived by: his mother Catherine Mifflin Matheny of Fort Belvoir; his siblings, Charles Sterne Matheny of Alexandria, Paul Mifflin Matheny of Baltimore, Grace Matheny Lalonde (Francois Maurice Lalonde) of Reston and Elizabeth Matheny Cranwell; and his nieces and nephews, Marianne Beauchemin Lalonde of Chicago, Gabrielle Mifflin Lalonde of Pittsburgh, John Taylor "Jack" Cranwell and Joseph Ashton Cranwell of Roanoke. He is also survived by cousins, and many friends.
