He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Herman and Eugenia Carter Gibson; and his siblings, Vera Sloan Gibson and John Robert Gibson. He is survived by: his wife Ruth Wells Gibson; his children, Robert Gibson of Marietta, Susan, Jane Eyre of Odenton and Pamela Gibson of Charlotte, NC.; his grandchildren, Jennifer White, Ashley, Glaza, Michelle Gibson, Andrew Gibson, Amanda and Rebecca Eyre; his sister Bernice Wilkenson of Dover, DE; and his child Pam. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
