She was predeceased by: her parents, Robert Lee Harris and Estella Robertson Harris; her husband Joseph Lee Shelton; her sisters, Lillian H. Bates and Helen Pearl Bates; and her granddaughter Glenda Valentine.
She is survived by: her daughter Viola Catherine Broadnax (John); her grandsons, John L. (Johnny) and Carlton Broadnax; her great grandchildren, Anaiah Broadnax, Karina, Steven Valentine, Kiwane, Jonathan and Kemonte Broadnax; her great great grandchildren, Kennedi, Khloe and Kendall Broadnax; her brother-in-law James E. Bates, Jr.; and her nieces and nephews, Linda B. Locket (Wayne) of Prince George, Cheryl, Vidette Bates, Gerald M. Bates of Chesapeake and James Edward Bates (Belinda) of Georgia.
