He was predeceased by: his parents, James Clayton and Alberta Openshaw (Shaw); his son Alan Openshaw; and his siblings, James Henry Openshaw and Lucille Ruiz.

He is survived by: his wife Barbara Jane Openshaw (Thomas); his daughter Vicki Hottel (David); and his grandchildren, Morgan, Bryce, Logan Hottel, Caitlyn and Cody Openshaw.
