He was predeceased by: his parents, Clarence Rakes and Bootsy Slaughter Rakes; his wife Gracie Beasley Rakes; his siblings, Linda Hall, Glenda Rakes and Jimmy Rakes; his grandson Russell Beasley; his former wife Betty Cannady Coleman; and his pet Alex Barkley.

He is survived by: his children, Shannon Slade (Heath) and Christopher Rakes (Tammy); his stepchildren, Rhonda Case (Jimmy), Suzie Beasley and Robert Beasley; and his grandchildren, Sheree Beasley Rutherford (Andrew) and Trey Case (Joy Somatanai).
