He was predeceased by: his parents, Col. John O. Johnstone and Margaret C. Johnstone of Richmond Virginia. He is survived by: his wife Jeanette S. Johnston; his children, John Slayton Johnstone (Suzy) of Charlottesville and Margaret McKinnon Johnstone of Miami, FL.; his granddaughter Leah Katherine Johnstone of Charlottesville, VA; his sister Sherri Patteson of Florida; and his friend Grady Phelps of Richmond.
