He was predeceased by: his parents, Samuel Gilliam and Louise Gilliam; his brother Milton Gilliam; his son Melvin Joseph Gilliam; and his granddaughter Edwanndoe Mechika Gilliam.
He is survived by: his wife Dorothy Lee Gilliam; his children, JoAnn Gilliam Shearn Cumberland (Mark), Virginia, Eleanora Gilliam Booker Jetersville (Jerome), Geneathia Giliam Spencer Farmville (Harry) and Keith Gilliam Farmville (Priscilla); his siblings, Samuel Gilliam, Julia Leech, Roberta Ferguson, Barbara Ann Gilliam and Joyce Wiley; and his grandchildren, Tanya Brown and Uronda Delaigle. He is also survived by twenty-one great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
