Bernardo Gluch Obituary

Bernardo Gluch, age 78, passed away on Monday, March 6th, 2023 at Inova Hospital in Falls Church, Virginia with his wife and step-daughter by his side. He was born on November 28th, 1944 in Buenos Aires, Argentina to Leon Hersch Gluch (Father) and Haja Sure Jerozalim (Mother).

Bernardo spent his career as an Economist at the Organization of American States. He loved having meaningful conversations about policy and economics. For those who had the pleasure of knowing Bernardo, talking about the economy was always on the agenda.

Bernardo’s sweet and gentle nature touched the lives of so many people. He was a true gentleman. One of the countless qualities that distinguished him was that when you were engaged with him, he was fully present for you. No matter how much time had lapsed between seeing each other, it was as if no time had lapsed at all. These are rare, innate gifts embedded in his personality that very few people possess - and such things came naturally to him.

Bernardo had an incredible ability to show affection and forgive. You knew you were loved by him, and he could look you right in the eye and demonstrate that. No matter how tense a situation or conversation, he knew just what to do to diffuse the situation.

His soul is no doubt in a huddle with his late friends, setting up a joke in that guileless, drawn-out way he would do — the joke or punchline itself never mattered; it was the joy of knowing that he wanted to give this to you, that you were in his company, and that this moment was everything.

Bernardo was preceded in death by his first wife, Sara, mother of their two sons Daniel and Jonathan Gluch. After the passing of his first wife, Sara, Bernard met and married Teresa in 1995.The couple met through friends at the OAS.

Bernardo is survived by his wife Teresa de Perignat, his two sons Daniel and Jonathan Gluch, his Step Daughter Carmen Puig de la Bellacasa, and his sister Hilda Rothman.

Bernardo you were an incredibly special man and you will be missed immensely. May the heavens welcome you with open wings.
