He is survived by: his wife Helen Beatrice Dean; his children, Ellis Johnson Dean (Mary Ellen) of Grottoes and Barbara Smith (Vernon, Jr.) of Elkton; his grandsons, Christopher Ray Smith (Nicole) and Nathan Johnson Dean (Katie McColgan); his great grandchildren, Alexander Jordan Smith, Andrew Nickolas Smith, Ian McColgan and Liliana Jordan Smith; his great great grandchild Amania Kay Smith; and his siblings, Willard Dean (Maggie) and Edith Moubray. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
