He was predeceased by: his parents, Melvin Herring and Pauline Monger Herring; his sons, P. Jim Shifflett and Jon Shifflett; and his siblings, Peggy Herring, Jimmy Herring, Lewis "Buddy" Herring and Billy Herring.
He is survived by: his wife Shirley Good Herring; his children, Harold "Wayne" Herring Jr., Keith Herring (Leah), Frankie Shifflett (Lisa), Terry Cubbage, Steven Cubbage, Virginia "Gina" Herring, Debbie Westen (Chuck), Susie Turner (Timmy), Melissa Johnson (Jeff) and Ashley Cubbage; and his sister Georgia Ann "Dolly" Herring. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
