He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, John Long and Gertrude Spitler Long; his wife Cherie Mathias Long; his daughters, Kristine Long of Alexandria, VA and Katrina Gerald (Vu) of Harrisonburg; his grandchildren, Sabrina and Russell; and his sisters, Judi Moomaw (John) of Harrisonburg and Jennifer Runion (Christopher) of Bridgewater. He was also cherished by many nieces and nephews.
He worked with various State and Federal agencies including the Chesapeake Bay Foundation for the preservation improve Smith Creek bank and the Chesapeake watershed.
