He was predeceased by: his parent Minnie Noel Alkire; his son Russell O. Alkire; his siblings, Catherine L. Burner, Billy J. Alkire and Sonny Dudley; and his stepfather Russell L. Dudley.

He is survived by: his wife Erma J. Alkire of Edinburg; his daughters, Geneva L. Spencer of Winchester, Joann F. Baker of Stephens City, Jeanette E. Frye of Winchester, Susan N. Thacker of Stephens City and Rebecca S. McDonald of Winchester; and his stepson Brett Buchanan of Woodstock. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
