He was predeceased by: his parents, Luther Whitt and Gracie Shifflett of Virginia; his children, Mitchell "Mitch" Elwood Shifflett and Michele Anne Shifflett; and his siblings, Everett Carson Shifflett, Mervin Luther Shifflett and Agnes Elizabeth Morris.

He is survived by: his wife Lorene Knight Shifflett; and his sister Ellie Beck of Virginia. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces.
