He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Radford Kern and Della Pruitt Kern; his stepmother Nora Dingus Lee Kern; his siblings, Loring, Garland, Clyde Kern, Ruby Cole, Lovely Lane, Dora Carter, Marie Herron and Ruth Brickey; his close friends, Danny Kern and Carter Chapman; his wife Beaulah Snavely Kern; his daughters, Lori (Craig Burton) and Marlene (Randy Hunter); his great grandchildren, Natalynn Windsor and Alissa Dasilva; and his siblings, Ann "Myrt" Cumbo of Belfont, OH, Raymond Lee of Parts Unknown and Robbie. He was also cherished by many nieces and nephews.
