He was predeceased by: his mother Clara Sloan (Kindle); his son Larry Sloan; and his siblings, Gladys Head, Nadine Wilson, Ida Bess Barrett, Charles Sloan, O. H. Sloan and Thomas Sloan.

He is survived by: his wife Nell Sloan; his children, Donnie Sloan of Duffield, VA and Colleen McDavid (George) of Gate City, VA; his grandchildren, Sara Lynn Bishop, Jessica Sloan, Jon Lawson (Kassondra), Jordan Lawson and Monteia Sloan (Aaron); and his sister Lucy Johnson. He is also survived by several great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
