He was predeceased by: his parents, Leonide Clayton Knott and Charles L. Knott; and his brother Charles Lewis Knott, Jr.. He is survived by: his wife Else Breitstadt Knott; his children, William C. Knott, Jr. and Stefanie Ryan Knott; and his sister Margaret Knott Harrison.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The American Legion, Dinwiddie Post 149 or Lebanon United Methodist Church.
