He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles W. Scott and Anna T. Scott; his former wife Laura Sherman Scott; his close friend Hattie Pauline Hudson; his daughter Laura Jeanette Scott; and his siblings, Shirley Turner, Farris Cabiness, Viola Hinson, Maelene Scott, Frances Turner, Charles Scott, Payson Scott, Moses Scott and Richard Scott.
He is survived by: his daughter Emily Scott DeJohn; his grandchildren, Justin DeJohn, Joshua Carter and Jasmine Carter; and his sisters, Anna Scott Newcomb and Pauline Scott Ogburn. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
