He was predeceased by: his parents, Roger Yates and Nannie Pearl Yates; his brothers, Walter J. Yates and James S. Yates; and his parents-in-law, John Moses and Laura Mae Bonner.
He is survived by: his wife Sharon Bonner Yates; his children, Monique Yates, Dominick Yates, Velda Myrick and Melissa Gilliam; his grandchildren, Shanique Yates, Sommer Yates, Dominick Yates, Ariyanna Boose, Lajoyous Boose, Ashley Wilkins and Jaquan Poarch; his great grandchildren, Hendrix and Kareem; his siblings, Polly Harris (James), Deborah Yates, Roger Gilbert Yates (Shirley), Danny Yates and Stanley Yates (Anna); his foster brother Ricky C. Coleman; his siblings-in-law, Maxine Yates, Dorothy Wyatt, Evelyn Bonner, Emma Chavis, John Bonner (Barbara) and Lester Bonner; his aunt Louise Hill; his uncle John Hall; and his nephew Rodney Yates. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
