She was predeceased by: her husband William "Bill" Chavis; her parents, John Moses and Laura Mae Jones Bonner; and her sisters, Charlene and Gladys Bonner.

She is survived by: her caregiver Patricia Chavis; her son Kevin Chavis; her grandsons, Dacien, Saleh and Elijah; her great grandchildren, Saleh Jr. and Nicole; her siblings, Dorothy Wyatt, Evelyn Bonner, Sharon Yates, John (Barbara) and Lester Bonner; her goddaughters, Frizell Potter, Monique Yates and Quanda King; and her close friends, Wilsey "Liz" Taylor and Ruth Goodwyn Stephens. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, friends and relatives.
