He was predeceased by: his parents, John R. Purcell Sr. and Wilda Purcell; and his son Thomas Franklin Purcell. He is survived by: his wife Rosalyn Hogge Purcell (Tinker); his son John Richard Purcell, III (Audria); his grandson John R. Purcell IV; his daughter-in-law Terri Davis; his granddaughters, Kelly Best (Stephen) and Abigail Purcell; his great grandchild Thomas Macon Best; his sister Estelle Davis (Robert); and his brother-in-law Thomas Hogge (Joyce).
