He was predeceased by: his parents, Edwin Martin Newman and Mollie Wilmoth Newman; and his siblings, Raphael Newman and Jacqueline N. Robertson. He is survived by: his wife Nancy Sparks Newman; his daughters, Trenace Newman Mantiply (David) and Laurie Newman Bailey (Dennis); his grandchildren, Samuel D. Mantiply (Leslie), Mollie Ann Mantiply, Joseph N. Mantiply (Ella), Austin D. Bailey and James F. Bailey (Perry); his great grandchildren, Hope Bailey, Ella Bailey, Freeman Bailey, Royall Bailey, Jones Bailey, Katherine Mantiply, Emma Mantiply and Lucy Mantiply; and his caregivers, Marie Dean, Marie Rudder, Olga Thorpe, Liz Haithcock, Sue Flowers, Carlene Wilson, Carolyn Perry, Staci Robinette, Jennifer Rudder, Tracy Tuck and Brooke Saunders. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Sunday, October 27th 2024 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Townes Funeral Home (215 W Main St, Danville, VA 24541).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Veterans Memorial Fund at the Community Foundation of the Dan River Region, 541 Loyal St., Danville, VA, 24541.
