He was predeceased by: his parents, Lawrence Leftwich and Ardentine Silcox Leftwich; and his siblings, Mitchell, Sidney Leftwich, Mary Bell Jessee and Virginia Counts.
He is survived by: his wife Kathie Leftwich; his adoptive daughter Barbara Sturgill (Andrew) of Dante, Virginia; his son Sammy Lee Leftwich (Kandace) of Waynesboro, Virginia; and his brothers, Palmer Leftwich (Peggy) of Jonesboro and Luke Leftwich (Nancy) of Dante, Virginia. He is also survived by six grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Following the COVID-19 restrictions set forth by the Governor of Virginia on face-covering requirements and social distancing, a funeral service for Sammy Dewey Leftwich will be conducted at 11:00 a. m. Monday, July 13, 2020, in Castlewood Funeral Home Chapel in Castlewood, Virginia with Rev. Tommy Kiser officiating.
