He was predeceased by: his father Elmer Roosevelt; his brother Bob Cornett; and his grandson Josh Cornett. He is survived by: his wife Mary Alice Cornett of Damascus, Virginia; his children, Keith Cornett (Kay) of Shady Valley, Tennessee, Robin Powers (Keith) of Damascus and Teresa Bebber (Tony) of Damascus, Virginia; his brothers, John Cornett (Katie) and Jim Cornett (Barbara) of Abingdon, Virginia; and his grandchildren, Latoshia Blackburn, Keshia Whitmire, Jeremy Cornett, Josh Bebber, Jessica Blankenship and Kyle Powers. He is also survived by fourteen great grandchildren.
