He was predeceased by: his parents, Lewis Wesley Updyke and Phyllis Jane Barber; his sister Donna Hamilton; and his daughter Jessica Carter. He is survived by: his wife Nancy Jo Mayol Ellington; his children, Melissa Jo Harshman, Tracy Sortzi, Michelle Ann Tilghman and Jonathan Ellington; his sisters, Deidra Neely and Deborah Dickerson; his niece Ashley Casey; and his grandchildren, Sara, Anna Sortzi, Mikayla Harshman, Avenelle Pullen, Sephora Tilghman, Zachary Terczak, Devin Carter and Jonathan Ellington.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations in Dan's memory be made to the American Lung Association or Disabled American Veterans.
