He was predeceased by: his parents, Ferrol F. Ayers and Ruth Rider Ayers; his siblings, Virginia, Jeanette Ayers, Doris Dunn and Paul Ayers; and his grandson Jason Ayers.
He is survived by: his wife Virginia Hardison Ayers; his sisters, Shirley Taylor of Rochester, NY and Sandy Burner of Winter Harbor, ME; and his children, Steven Ayers of Culpeper, Wayne Ayers (Julie) of Spotsylvania, James Ayers (Pam) of New Market, Deborah Straw of Appomattox and Cynthia Parrish (Ben) of Smithfield, NC.. He is also survived by six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
