He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Grace Adams Rice and Robert Dean Rice, Sr.; his wife Kay Wiggs Rice; his children, Kevin Dean Rice (Carol Mirko Rice) and Jennifer Anne Mintz (Richard Troy Mintz); his grandchildren, Allison Grace Rice, Andrew Dean Rice, Ethan Michael Rice, Elizabeth Christine Rice, Joshua Francis Rice, Georgia Anne Mintz and Jackson Troy Mintz; and his siblings, Randall V. Rice (Janice Rice) and Carolyn Brown.
