He is survived by: his wife Elaine Gates; his children, Nicole Rennae Gates, Amber Elizabeth Gates and Derrick Anthony Gates; his sister Lori Gates Little; his mother-in-law Harriet Powell; his siblings-in-law, Robert Powell, Michael Powell (Pamela), Jeffrey Powell and Sandy Powell; his nephews, Christopher and Aaron Little; and his cousins, Lisa Gates, Pamela Blackshear, Lemoyne Blackshear, Neiko Gates and Sean Coleman.
