He was predeceased by: his father Charles Benson of Moore, SC.. He is survived by: his mother Harnetha Lee Benson; his wife Celeste Tindel; his children, Deondra K. Benson of Shaker Heights, OH and Andrew G. Benson of Washington, DC; and his brother Erick M. Benson (Michelle) of Raleigh, NC. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, cousins, good friends.

In lieu of flowers, contributions on behalf of Darryl in his memory may be made to the Student Emergency Fund at his Alma Mater, Tuskegee University.
