He was predeceased by: his parents, Charlie William and Irene Hale Payne; his son Dexter Keith Payne; and his siblings, James "Hatchett" Hatchett, Frances Seay, William "Pete" Payne, Doris "Dot" Covington, Norman Payne, Jean Strumb and Mary Jane McBride.
He is survived by: his daughter Gladys; his wife Gladys Pauline Kennedy; his daughter Wanda Kay Hunnings (Joe) of Blacksburg, VA; his daughter-in-law Brenda Payne; his nephew Robbie Knight (Pam); his grandchildren, Travis Hunnings (Michelle Balthazor), Blakely Hunnings (Noah Vann), Caleb Payne (Sarah), Justine Patel (Gaurav), Bethany Giesel (Austin) and Emma Payne; and his great grandchildren, William Hunnings, Jack, Lucy Vann, Heidi Payne and Satya Patel.
