He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Franklin Sampson and Elvira Wilhelm Sampson; his wife Glenna Lee Sawyers Sampson; his siblings, Phyllis Booth, Irene Aynes, Ruby Leffel, Violet Hayward and Wayne Sampson; and his grandson Jason Sampson.
He is survived by: his children, Debra Carol Sampson Elmore (Mike) of Ridgeway, Linda Sampson Smiley (Jay) of Petersburg, KY, Holly Joleen Shields (Jason) of Roanoke, Douglas Gene Sampson (Wendy), Robert Lee Sampson (Patsy) of Covington and Brian LaRue Sampson (Cameo) of Beckley, WV; and his siblings, Shirley Burdette (Richard), Juanita Musser of Covington, Darrell Sampson (Julie McCormick) of Covington and Gene Sampson of Covington. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
