He is survived by: his wife Thelma Winslow Kirkland; his sons, Samuel N. Kirkland III (Michelle McGinnis Kirkland) and Eric Brantley Kirkland (Kimberly Lynn Kirkland); and his grandchildren, Tyler Winslow Kirkland and Shannon Lynn Kirkland. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
