She was predeceased by: her parents, John Jennings and Mary Bonds Jennings Lovelace; her husband Sam Marshall Shumate Sr.; her children, Sam Marshall "Bud" Shumate Jr. and Brenda Nicholas; her grandchildren, Crystal Shumate and Joey Shumate; and her siblings, Harvey Jennings, Junior Jennings and Dot Carico.
She is survived by: her children, Roger Shumate (Teri) of Fieldale, Stephen Shumate (Suzy) of Moneta and Debra Shumate (James) of Montvale; her son-in-law Ray Nicholas of Troutville; and her sisters, Judy Surber (Lee) of Martinsville and Shirley Montgomery (Robert) of Galax. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Monday, December 23rd 2024 at 2:00 PM at the Valley Drive Baptist Church (889 Valley Dr, Fieldale, VA 24089).
