He was predeceased by: his father Dewey Akers Lawson; his sister Theresa Lawson Corns; and his grandparents, Virgil, Carrie Martin Lawson, Charlie and Gay Wagner Spencer.

He is survived by: his siblings, Lisa Turney (Danny) and Dewey Edwin Lawson (Brenda); his niece Kayla Turney; his nephews, Derrick Turney (Elizabeth), Devin Turney, Robert Lawson, Mitchell Lawson (Denise), David White (Sharon) and Robert Smith (Tiffany); and his great-nephews, Kaia Turney, Capri Lawson (Celia Lawson) and Kane Turney. He is also survived by aunts, uncles and cousins, five great nieces.
