He was predeceased by: his wife Martha A. Sexton; his parents, Lacey and Doris; his son Herman Eugene Mefford; and his grandsons, Jeffery Jr. Hamilton, Lacey Sexton and Jacob Daniel Marshall.
He is survived by: his sisters, Jean Cook of North Carolina, Nellie Cochrane of Tennessee, Barbara Goodman and Stella Dietz of Norton; and his grandchildren, Melinda and Robert Johnson.
