She was predeceased by: her parents, William B. Stevens and Beatrice Card Stevens; her brothers, Edward Holden, Walter Holden and Richard Holden; and her nephew Timothy William Backels.
She is survived by: her husband John Franz Backels of Clifton Forge; her children, Steve Backels (Kelsey) of Millersville, PA, Kristine Mary Girard (Bob) of Earlysville and Karen Louise Gioia (Bob) of Demarest, NJ; her grandchildren, Adam Backels, Parker Girard, Charlie Girard, Kerry Moomaw, Mitch Gioia, Trevor Gioia and Meredith Gioia; and her brother William Harrington Stevens of Nikiski, AK. She is also survived by her children and grandchildren.
The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Tim Backels Memorial Scholarship Fund @ Dabney S. Lancaster Community College, 1000 Dabney Drive, Clifton Forge, Virginia 24422.
