He was predeceased by: his parents, Eldon Vess and Grace Layne Vess. He is survived by: his wife Crystal Patterson Vess of Clifton Forge; his son Jerry Lee Vess, Jr. (Teresa) of Clifton Forge; his siblings, Betty Schooler (Roger) of Clifton Forge, Jean Ann Tucker of Clifton Forge and Donald Vess (Arlinda) of Fayetteville, TN; his grandchildren, Melinda Benson, Justin Vess and Ben Vess; and his great grandchildren, Jack Benson, Carlyn Benson, Jeslyn Vess, Kenton Vess and Preston Vess. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Blue Ridge Cancer Care, 2013 South Jefferson Street, Roanoke, VA 24014.
