She was predeceased by: her parents, Joseph Russell Ragland and Beulah Viola Fitzgerald Ragland; her husband George Elwood Mays; and her siblings, Shirley Wallace, Kenneth and Sonny Ragland.

She is survived by: her daughter Vicki Price (Gary) of Clifton Forge; her siblings, Patricia Ragland of Arlington, Raymond Ragland of Amherst, William Ragland (Joan) of Amherst and Ronald Ragland (Jacqui) of Bethel, NC; her brother-in-law Tommy Wallace of Lexington; her granddaughter Tiffany Gutshall (Coleman) of Hickory, NC; and her great grandchild Madeline Gutshall. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.
