He was predeceased by: his parents, Buddie Lee Hackney and Mary Melton Hackney; his brother Charles Lee Hackney; and his sister-in-law Christine Hackney. He is survived by: his niece Pamela Peters (Henry); his great-nephews, Josh Peters (Kelly) and Jacob Peters (Jacqueline); his friend Robin Heath; and his stepchildren, Heath Case and Doni Crowell (Brent).

In lieu of flowers, Bill's family asks that donations be made the American Cancer Society.
