She was predeceased by: her parents, John Henry Thorpe and Eunice Gertrude Meade Thorpe; her husbands, Clarence Gillispie Herndon and Morton James Burks; her daughter Karen Lynn Herndon; her granddaughter Brooke Elizabeth Baughan; her siblings, Raymond Thorpe, Frances Foster and Marion Herndon; and her stepson Morton James "Jimmy" Burks, Jr..

She is survived by: her children, James C. Herndon (Judy) of Nelson, VA and Elizabeth Herndon Baughan of Chase City, VA; her granddaughter Lynn Herndon Chapman (Sean); her great grandchildren, Mackenzie Williamson, Zachary Chapman and Landon Chapman; her sister Ruth Hightower; her stepdaughter JoAnne Sprouse; her stepgrandchildren, Christy Renner, Jamie Burks, Steven Burks, Mary Jo Duncan, Melissa Sprouse and Clarence Sprouse III; and her friends, Delores Burks and Dorothy Matherly.
