She was predeceased by: her parents, Oliver Carden and Otena Watson Carden; her son Donald Smith; her siblings, Rose Morton, Thomas, Ulyess and George Carden; and her grandson Carleon Robertson.
She is survived by: her children, Troy Smith (Johanna) of Clarksville, VA, Brenda Reed (Gary) of Clarksville, VA, Carrie Stith (Ben) of Red Oak, VA, Maggie Hayes (Harvey) of Red Oak, VA and Phyllis Fields of Bullock, NC; and her sister Anita Hunt (Roscoe) of Clover, VA. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren, twenty-one great- grandchildren.
