He is survived by: his wife Ruby Epperson Roach; his children, James Phillip Roach, Jr. (Donna) of Arizona, Michael Alan Roach (Raphaela) of North Carolina and Stacy Roach Rice (Dennis) of Chase City; and his sister-in-law Christine Crowell of Appomattox.
