He was predeceased by: his parents, Augusta L., Sr. and Elnora Royster Brummell; his former wife Emily Scott Brummell; his wife Luetta Griffin Brummell; and his siblings, Thomas, Hilda and James Brummell.

He is survived by: his children, Roscoe H. Small, Jr. of Durham, NC, Tracy Small of Bullock, NC, Gwendolyn Brooks (Tony) of Oxford, NC, Deborah Coleman (Darryl) of Creedmoor, NC and Stacy Harrington (Joseph) of Cameron, NC; his sister Eleanor B. Terry (Chester) of Ponte Vedra, FL; his friend Floyd Baskerville (Veronica) of Clarksville, VA; and also Sylvia Griffin. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren.

“Whoever AL's heirs are: I'm an old hunting companion of his; stopped by both the grave and the house today. I see both houses are abandoned, though the yard is being kept mowed. There's a window missing in James' house. A melancholy scene. I hope a marker will be erected over the graves of James and AL at some time. I miss him. Lowrie Beacham. [email protected]”
